Nautilus Hearing — audiology clinic

Accessibility

This is a website about hearing care. It would be a poor advertisement for the practice if it were hard to use.

What we have done

The site targets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Specifically:

  • Body text is set at 18 pixels rather than the more common 16, and the page reflows properly when you enlarge text in your browser.
  • Text and interface colors were chosen to exceed the required contrast ratios, not merely to meet them.
  • Every interactive control is at least 48 by 48 pixels — well above the guideline minimum — so buttons are reachable with imprecise taps.
  • Every control shows a clear, high-contrast outline when reached by keyboard, and the whole site can be operated without a mouse.
  • A “skip to main content” link appears as soon as you press Tab.
  • Form fields have real labels attached to them, not placeholder text standing in for a label.
  • Headings are properly nested so screen reader users can navigate by structure.
  • Motion and smooth scrolling are disabled automatically if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • The site’s typefaces are served directly from this website rather than from a third-party font service, which avoids an extra tracking connection.

Where we know we are not finished

An accessibility statement that claims full conformance is usually wrong. Formal testing against WCAG 2.2 AA, including verification with a screen reader, is part of the pre-launch checklist and this page will be updated with the result rather than with a claim made in advance.

In the office

Physical accessibility details — entrance, parking, restroom, seating, and any accommodations available on request — will be described here once confirmed directly with the practice. We would rather say nothing than describe an entrance we have not verified and send someone on a wasted journey.

Tell us if something does not work

If any part of this site is difficult to use, we want to hear about it, and we will fix it rather than explain it away. Please call 251-250-7343 and describe what happened and what device you were using.
